When Overwhelm Turns the Sofa Into a Fortress

Let’s be honest When everything feels like too much, the last thing I often want to do is leave the house. Especially when you’re working on a show remotely, it’s so easy to feel like this. Sometimes, I just want to hide under the duvet, pull the covers over my head, and pretend the world doesn’t exist. It’s tempting, isn’t it? To just block everything out and hide away.
But then I look at my four beautiful, demanding dogs, and I realise I can’t ignore them. They’re my daily reminder that I have to get up, get outside, and do the thing. So I put on my shoes, grab one of them, and head out for a walk. And do you know what? That brisk air, that change of scenery, feels like hitting the reset button on my brain. The cobwebs start to clear, and suddenly the world feels a lot less overwhelming.
Even if all you want to do is hide away, taking that small step outside can make all the difference. Believe me, after a quick walk, I almost always feel better. And don’t just take my word for it—ask Puffin, who’s in the picture here looking blissed out after her walk, the happiest dog in the world.
So next time things feel a bit much, especially when you’re working remotely and it’s all too easy to feel stuck, remember that a tiny step outside could be the best move you make all day.
And I promise, you’ll thank yourself afterward.
